Webster's 1828 Dictionary refers to the word Spring as meaning " to leap or shoot in the primary sense. To vegetate and rise out of the ground; to begin to appear; to break forth; to leap; to thrive. To proceed or issue, as from a fountain or source, as waters springs from reservoirs in the earth, and rivers spring from lakes or ponds." The idea of "spring (s)" whether in reference to movement or a source of water, appears in the Bible nearly 90 times...
Symbolically Solomon relates it to the season of love: SS 2:10-12. Figuratively Peter uses the concept of spring to describe false teachers saying: "...they are springs without water, and mists driven by a storm, for whom the black darkness has been reserved." (2 Peter 2:17)
Most jubilantly however, we celebrate the word Spring in our relationship to God through Christ: "...Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the Lord God is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation. Therefore [I] will joyously draw living water from the well spring of salvation..." (Is 12:1-6). The Bible repeatedly reminds us of God's renewing cleansing power through the concept of water. Rev 7:17 says: "for the Lamb in the center of the throne shall be their shepherd, and shall guide them to springs of the water of life, and God shall wipe every tear from their eyes." The conclusion of the matter: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of water of life without cost."
